Clearing vs. mulching: which do you need?
Full land clearing removes trees, stumps and roots and is the right call when you're building — a house pad, driveway or septic field needs clean, stable ground.
Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees into mulch that stays on site. It's faster, disturbs less soil and is usually cheaper per acre — ideal for opening up land, trails, fence lines and views.
Many Chattanooga projects use both: mulch the whole property, then fully clear and grade only the building area. Your estimate will lay out the most cost-effective mix.
What drives the cost of clearing?
- Density & tree size — light brush vs. mature hardwoods
- Slope & access — ridge lots take more time and care
- Stumps — grind to grade or remove completely
- Debris — mulch on site, haul off, or burn where allowed
- Finish — rough cleared, root-raked, or graded and seeded
Chattanooga land isn't flat, dry or easy. Our crews are ready for that.
Steep ridges
Signal, Lookout and Walden's Ridge lots call for careful selective clearing and erosion control.
Red clay & rock
The right equipment and grading keep clay workable and pads stable.
Fast regrowth
Privet, kudzu and cedar take over quickly. Mulching knocks it back in one pass.

Land clearing questions, answered
How much does land clearing cost in Chattanooga?
It depends on how dense the trees and brush are, the slope, access, whether stumps must be removed and how debris is handled. Light brush mulching costs far less per acre than full clearing of mature timber. Every job gets a free on-site estimate with a firm price before work starts.
What is the difference between land clearing and forestry mulching?
Land clearing removes trees, stumps and roots — usually down to bare dirt for construction. Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees into mulch that stays on the ground, which is faster and cheaper for opening up overgrown land that will not be built on right away.
Do I need a permit to clear my land?
Clearing for construction typically falls under your building or land-disturbance permit, and larger sites (generally an acre or more of disturbance) may need state stormwater coverage. Rules vary by city and county, so your crew will go over what applies during the estimate.
How soon can you start?
Estimates are usually scheduled within a few days, and many jobs start within one to two weeks depending on weather and size.
What areas do you serve?
Chattanooga and the surrounding area, including Hixson, Ooltewah, Signal Mountain, Soddy-Daisy, Cleveland, and North Georgia communities like Ringgold, Fort Oglethorpe and Rossville.
